What is Giving?

Giving is the act of offering a portion of our financial resources to God through tithes and offerings, recognizing that everything we have comes from Him. Tithing specifically refers to giving the first 10% of our income back to God as an act of worship and obedience, while offerings are additional gifts that go beyond the tithe.

Malachi 3:10- "'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.'"

Why We Give

We are on mission at Daybreak - helping others to live and love like Jesus. We get to do that because of your generosity. We believe it is important to give, and there is blessing when we give cheerfully, to glorify and honor God by being obedient to what He has asked of us.

Year End Offering

We would like to invite you to consider being a part of our Year End Offering. There are a variety of projects that we are investing in to help more people to live and love like Jesus. These include: San Marcos Campus Launch, The San Diego Rescue Mission and Kid's Classroom Renovations. Thank you for your generosity.

Myths About Giving

When it comes to generosity, many of us carry quiet assumptions or believe lingering myths that hold us back—but the truth of Scripture paints an entirely different picture. Giving is an invitation from God to trust Him, to participate in His work, and to experience the joy of partnering with what He’s doing in and through our church.

Below, we’ve outlined a few common myths—and the truth that sets us free to give with confidence, purpose, and joy.

Myth #1 — “I’m generous in other ways, so I don’t need to tithe.”

The tithe is a specific biblical practice of returning the first 10% to God. Serving and helping others is wonderful, but it does not replace the tithe.

Myth #2 — “I can’t afford to tithe.”

This myth says: “I’ll tithe when things get easier.”
The sermon teaches the opposite: tithing is what invites God’s blessing, protection, and provision right now — not later.

Myth #3 — “Tithing is Old Testament and doesn’t apply today.”

The principle of firstfruits and bringing the tithe to God’s house is reinforced by Jesus and practiced throughout Scripture.

Myth #4 — “I give to other charities, so that counts.”

Giving to worthy causes is good — but the tithe belongs to the “storehouse” (the local church), not charities. Offerings and generosity beyond the tithe can go anywhere, but the tithe goes to God’s house.

Myth #5 — “I’ll start tithing once I’m out of debt or when I’m more stable.”

This is one of the most common myths.
The sermon points out that tithing is a faith-first decision, not a leftover decision. Waiting rarely leads to obedience — obedience leads to blessing.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. - 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Kingdom Builders

We all have different spiritual giftings and we are passionate that each person be encouraged to use their gifts for a Kingdom purpose. The Kingdom Builders team is a team of people who choose to serve at Daybreak by strategically investing resources over and above their tithe to accelerate the vision of the church. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. -Romans 12:6-8
