What it Means to Choose Jesus
We all trust something. People trust relationships, money, work ethic, or the advice of others. To some extent, most of us rely on our opinions, feelings, and understanding of life. But the fact of the matter is this: God designed and created us with a specific plan in mind. Trusting in anything else for how to live our lives will always lead to disappointment.
God’s word compels us in Proverbs 3:5-6 to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” When we entrust our whole lives to God and His plan, then we will truly flourish!
This is why the first and most important decision we must make on the spiritual journey with God is to entrust our whole lives to God. To choose Jesus, and receive salvation from Him.
What God's Word Says
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12-13
Practical Tools
There is a pretty simple acronym that helps guide us to entrust our lives to Jesus. Recite the ABCs.
Admit that you are not living God’s way. (Romans 3:23)
Believe – Believe that Jesus died to cover the penalty for your sin. (Romans 5:8 & 6:23)
Confess and acknowledge that you entrust your life to God. (Romans 10:9)
